Mohammed Abdul Aziz al-Najjar, a 38-year-old imam and religious radio presenter, was killed in an Israeli drone strike in southern Gaza on Wednesday, September 30, according to Palestinian officials. He was preparing media material about Quran memorisation when the strike occurred.

A religious broadcaster and community imam

Al-Najjar produced and presented programmes for Quran Radio, which is affiliated with Gaza’s Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs. The ministry’s media director said he was carrying out work on a report about Quran learning. Al-Najjar also served as imam of Ibad al-Rahman Mosque in Khuza’a, east of Khan Younis.

The strike and reported casualties

A medical source said al-Najjar’s body and another injured person were taken to Nasser Hospital after a strike in the Al-Mawasi area near Al-Qarara in northwestern Khan Younis. The ministry mourned him and described his religious and media work as dedicated service.

His death was among several reported casualties in Gaza that day. Palestinian officials said attacks also hit a vehicle in Gaza City and a residential area. The circumstances and casualty figures are attributed to the officials and medical sources cited in the report.
