Gaza Health Chief Urges Urgent Action to Save Detained Dr Abu Safia
Gaza’s Ministry of Health director general, Dr Muneer al-Boursh, has called for urgent action to protect the life of Palestinian paediatrician Hussam Abu Safia, warning that it could soon be “too late”.
Abu Safia has been detained by Israel since 2024. Concerns over his health have intensified amid reports alleging torture and a lack of adequate medical care during his detention.
Al-Boursh said on Saturday that “serious concerns are mounting” over the doctor’s life and health, urging immediate intervention to ensure his safety and access to medical treatment.
Abu Safia, who worked as a paediatrician in Gaza, has become a prominent symbol of the wider concerns surrounding Palestinian medical workers and detainees during the Gaza war.
Calls for his release and medical protection have continued as concern grows over his condition.
