Former Israeli spy Jonathan Pollard has sparked controversy after suggesting that Egypt and Turkey could become future targets for Israel during comments discussing regional tensions and security threats.

Pollard, who was convicted in the United States in the 1980s for spying on behalf of Israel, made the remarks while speaking about Israel’s military strategy and its position in the Middle East. His comments drew criticism online and among regional observers, particularly because both Egypt and Turkey maintain diplomatic relations with Israel.

The statements come amid heightened tensions across the region following the ongoing Genocide in Gaza and increasing instability involving neighbouring countries.

Critics of Israel’s regional policies pointed to what they describe as a pattern of escalating rhetoric followed by military action. In recent years, Israel has carried out attacks and military operations in Gaza, Lebanon, Syria, and Iran, while some Israeli political figures and groups have openly promoted ideas linked to a “Greater Israel” vision expanding Israeli influence across the region.

Some analysts and commentators warned that remarks like Pollard’s could deepen fears in neighbouring countries, especially given previous public threats or warnings that were later followed by military escalation.

Egypt has played a key role in mediation efforts related to ceasefire negotiations and humanitarian aid entering Gaza, while Turkey has repeatedly criticized Israeli military actions and voiced support for Palestinians.

While Pollard does not hold an official government position, his comments have added to wider regional concerns about the possibility of future escalation involving additional countries in the Middle East.
