Israeli Airstrikes Kill 2 Lebanese Soldiers Amid Rising Death Toll in Southern Lebanon
Two Lebanese soldiers were killed in separate Israeli airstrikes in southern Lebanon on Saturday, according to the Lebanese army, as hostilities continued despite reports of a ceasefire.
The army said soldier Jamil Nahhal was killed in an airstrike while traveling on the Kfarrumman–Nabatieh road. In a separate incident, First Sergeant Ali Ibrahim died from injuries sustained during an Israeli strike on the town of Touline in Marjayoun a day earlier.
Lebanese military officials condemned the ongoing attacks, warning that continued strikes across southern Lebanon and the Bekaa Valley are causing additional casualties, widespread property damage, and could undermine efforts to restore stability.
Lebanon’s state-run media reported that at least 28 people had been killed in Israeli attacks across southern Lebanon since early Saturday. Lebanese authorities say the broader military campaign has left thousands dead, injured more than 12,000 people, and displaced over one million residents since March 2026.
The latest escalation comes despite reports from Israeli and US officials that a ceasefire agreement with Hezbollah had taken effect, raising concerns about continued violations and the fragile security situation along the border.
