CENTCOM Advised Halt to Iran Strikes After Targets Were Exhausted, Report Says

US military leaders advised President Donald Trump to pause strikes on Iran after concluding that the air campaign had achieved its immediate objectives and was producing limited results, according to reports.

CENTCOM Commander Brad Cooper reportedly told the White House that weeks of strikes had significantly reduced Iran’s ability to target commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. However, officials said many planned targets had been exhausted and continued attacks could require a wider war.

The report said Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Dan Caine also warned that declining supplies of air defence interceptors could increase risks for US forces and regional allies.

Following the military assessment, Trump suspended operations while allowing more space for diplomatic discussions with Tehran. US officials said talks are continuing after a period of intense military exchanges.
