Iran has accused France of hypocrisy after comments by French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot regarding the impact of recent conflict on Iranian civilians.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said Barrot’s remarks were politically motivated after the minister stated that Iranian people were among the main victims of the war, caught between state repression and external bombardment.
In a post on X, Baghaei strongly rejected the comments, accusing France of remaining silent during the conflict and failing to condemn attacks on Iranian cities.
“You remained silent – you even made yourself complicit – while Iranian cities were savagely bombed and innocent Iranians were brutally massacred,” he wrote.
He further criticized France’s human rights stance, saying it was selectively applied for political gain and used to lecture other countries while ignoring suffering during the war.
