Houthi Attacks Kill 38 Yemeni Government Troops

At least 38 members of Yemen’s internationally recognised government forces were killed and 29 wounded in missile and drone attacks carried out by the Houthis, according to reports citing military officials.

The assault is being described as the deadliest attack against government forces since the 2022 United Nations-brokered truce, highlighting growing concerns that Yemen’s long-running conflict could be entering a more dangerous phase.

Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree said the group targeted government military positions in several areas, including al-Ruwaik, al-Thaniyah and al-Abr, using ballistic missiles and drones.

The Houthis said the attacks were carried out in response to what they described as a Saudi-backed military buildup. Saree warned that the group was prepared to respond to any further escalation.

The latest violence comes amid wider tensions involving the United States and Iran, raising concerns that regional developments could further destabilise Yemen.

The heavy casualties mark a significant escalation despite years of efforts to maintain a fragile reduction in hostilities.
