USS George Washington Heads to Middle East to Relieve USS Lincoln
The United States is preparing to deploy the USS George Washington to the Middle East, where it is expected to relieve the USS Abraham Lincoln amid the ongoing Iran war.
The aircraft carrier has begun leaving the western Pacific after departing its port in Da Nang, Vietnam. Its expected deployment comes as concerns grow over conditions aboard the Lincoln, which has been involved in US military operations against Iran.
The rotation would allow the US Navy to maintain an aircraft-carrier presence in the region while giving the Lincoln’s crew a long-awaited relief after an extended deployment.
