The United States is sending up to 10,000 additional troops to the Middle East despite an ongoing ceasefire with Iran, raising concerns about a potential escalation in the region.

The deployment includes naval strike groups and ground forces, significantly boosting the US military presence as tensions remain high ahead of a fragile ceasefire deadline expected later this month.

US officials say the move is intended to strengthen deterrence and prepare for possible developments if diplomacy fails. However, critics warn it risks undermining ongoing negotiations with Tehran. A two-week ceasefire between the US and Iran came into effect on April 8 following weeks of intense fighting that disrupted global oil routes and raised fears of a wider regional war.

Despite the truce, the US has continued pressure tactics, including a naval blockade of Iranian ports, while Iran has warned it could retaliate if tensions escalate further. Diplomatic efforts, including talks mediated by Pakistan, are ongoing, but analysts say the growing military buildup highlights the uncertainty surrounding the ceasefire’s future.
