US General Dan Caine Says Airstrikes Alone May Not Achieve Iran War Goals
US Chairman of the Joint Chiefs General Dan Caine has privately warned that Washington needs an “off-ramp” from the war with Iran, amid concerns that continued military action could fail to achieve the Trump administration’s objectives.
According to CNN, Caine has told officials that airstrikes alone are unlikely to accomplish the administration’s goals and could carry the risk of unintended consequences.
The general has reportedly discussed possible ways to de-escalate the conflict with Vice President JD Vance, CIA Director John Ratcliffe and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
His reported concerns come as the Trump administration considers further military options against Iran, raising questions over how the conflict could be brought to an end without triggering a wider regional escalation.
