Talks between the United States and Iran ended without a breakthrough after extended negotiations held in Islamabad, Pakistan, on April 11–12, 2026 that lasted 21 hours.
Officials from both sides described the discussions as “intensive” but confirmed that no agreement was reached on key issues, including nuclear restrictions and sanctions relief. The negotiations, mediated in part by regional actors, aimed to revive diplomatic progress following months of escalating tensions.
According to reports, disagreements persisted over the scope of Iran’s nuclear programme and the timeline for lifting US sanctions. While Washington pushed for stricter limitations, Tehran sought broader guarantees and immediate economic relief.
Despite the lack of a deal, both sides signalled that talks could continue in the future. Analysts say the failure to secure an agreement highlights ongoing mistrust between the two countries and raises concerns about further instability in the region. No new meeting date has been officially announced.
