UK Hosts Sudan Event With RSF and UAE Representatives, Sparking Criticism
A UK-hosted conference on Sudan has drawn criticism after reports that representatives linked to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the United Arab Emirates were invited to attend, while Sudan’s army-backed government was excluded.
The event, held at Wilton Park, reportedly includes Nasredeen Abdulbari, a figure from the RSF-aligned Tasis coalition, along with UAE representatives and officials from other Gulf countries.
Sudan’s government has questioned Britain’s decision, saying it has little confidence in a private diplomatic process involving RSF-linked figures. Critics argue the move is inconsistent with international concerns over alleged RSF abuses in Darfur.
The RSF has been accused by the UN and others of serious violations during Sudan’s ongoing conflict with the Sudanese Armed Forces, while the UAE has denied supporting the group.
The UK government has not publicly detailed the participants or agenda of the meeting.
