Türkiye and Syria Discuss $10 Billion Trade Target in Damascus
Türkiye and Syria are working to expand economic ties, with officials discussing a $10 billion bilateral trade target during a meeting in Damascus.
Turkish Trade Minister Ömer Bolat arrived in the Syrian capital with a business delegation to attend the 63rd Damascus International Fair. He met Syrian Economy and Industry Minister Mohammad Nidal al-Shaar to discuss measures aimed at increasing trade between the two countries.
The talks focused on reducing barriers to commerce, particularly transportation and customs procedures. Officials also discussed the potential role of Turkish companies in Syria’s reconstruction.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to agreements reached during the Türkiye-Syria Joint Economic and Trade Commission meeting in April.
Bolat also met Ahmad Rawad Ramadan, the newly appointed head of the Syrian Investment Agency, to discuss investment opportunities for Turkish businesses.
The two sides examined plans for a more predictable investment environment and potential organised industrial zones in Kamune and Saraqib. Turkish business leaders also outlined long-term investment plans aimed at increasing production and employment.
The discussions signal growing economic cooperation between Ankara and Damascus as Syria seeks investment and reconstruction support and Türkiye looks to deepen its trade and business presence in the country.
