Trump Warns of Fresh US Strikes on Iran as Ceasefire Collapses
US President Donald Trump said the initial ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran is effectively over and warned that American forces would likely launch new strikes against Iran.
Speaking on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Ankara, Trump accused Iranian leaders of failing to honor their commitments and said the US was prepared to respond with further military action. He also suggested that Washington may not pursue a permanent agreement with Tehran.
Trump reiterated that Iran would never be allowed to develop a nuclear weapon, adding that the United States could achieve that objective with or without a negotiated deal.
The renewed tensions follow recent US strikes on Iranian targets and Iran's reported attacks on US military sites in Bahrain and Kuwait after earlier incidents involving tankers in the Strait of Hormuz.
The escalation has increased security concerns in the Gulf, with several oil and gas tankers reportedly changing course to avoid the Strait of Hormuz, contributing to a sharp rise in global oil prices.
