U.S. President Donald Trump has proposed a $1.5 trillion defense budget for fiscal year 2027, marking one of the largest military spending requests in U.S. history, according to official budget documents and reports.

The proposal represents roughly a 40–44% increase in Pentagon funding compared to previous levels, reflecting the administration’s focus on military readiness amid rising global tensions. At the same time, the plan includes a 10% reduction in non-defense spending, targeting domestic programs across sectors such as housing, energy, and social services.

Officials say the budget prioritizes national security in what they describe as a “dangerous world,” while critics argue the cuts could impact essential public services. The proposal must still be approved by Congress, where it is expected to face strong political opposition and negotiations before any final budget is passed.
