Israel has carried out air strikes on a military airbase in Syria’s Idlib province, drawing criticism from Türkiye and the United States over what they described as an unnecessary escalation.
Syria’s state-run Ekhbariya television, citing a military source, reported that Israel conducted eight strikes on the runway and storage facilities at the Abu al-Duhur airbase near Aleppo.
Türkiye rejected Israeli claims that Ankara posed a threat by preparing to deploy troops to the facility. Turkish officials also condemned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s policies as expansionist.
The United States criticised the Israeli operation as an “unnecessary escalation,” adding to growing regional tensions.
The strikes come amid heightened competition over Syria’s security and military infrastructure, with Israel continuing to monitor developments it considers potential threats along its borders.
