Bus Bombing Near Damascus Kills 2, Injures 13
At least two people were killed and 13 others injured when a bomb planted inside a minibus exploded in Jaramana, a town near Damascus known for its Druze and Christian communities, Syrian state media reported.
The blast destroyed the vehicle and scattered debris across a major road. Emergency services rushed to the scene, while forensic teams worked to identify human remains. Authorities said the explosion was caused by a bomb placed inside the minibus.
No group immediately claimed responsibility.
The attack adds to growing security concerns in Syria, where the government has struggled to establish full control since the fall of longtime leader Bashar al-Assad in December 2024. Damascus and surrounding areas have experienced several attacks targeting civilians and security forces.
Jaramana was also affected by sectarian violence in 2025. Syria has faced wider communal tensions, including deadly violence involving Alawite and Druze communities and an attack on a Damascus church that killed 25 people.
The latest blast also comes amid continuing concerns over Islamic State sleeper cells. Syria has joined the US-led coalition against IS, but the group remains capable of carrying out attacks despite losing most of its territorial control.
President Ahmed al-Sharaa has pledged to protect Syria’s minorities and promote unity, but repeated attacks and sectarian violence continue to test the country’s fragile security situation.
