Report Documents Rise in Anti-Christian Incidents in Jerusalem

A new report by the Religious Freedom Data Center (RFDC) says anti-Christian harassment and attacks in Jerusalem increased between April and June 2026, documenting 76 incidents involving 83 acts targeting clergy, pilgrims, churches and Christian holy sites.

According to the report, most incidents occurred in Jerusalem, particularly in the Old City, Mount Zion and West Jerusalem. Reported cases included verbal abuse, spitting, physical assaults, threats, vandalism and attacks on religious processions.

The report identified spitting as the most common form of harassment, accounting for more than half of the documented incidents. It also highlighted assaults on clergy, damage to Christian property and repeated abuse directed at pilgrims and worshippers.

One of the most serious cases involved the reported assault of a nun near Mount Zion. The report also cited incidents of anti-Christian slogans, vandalism of church property and harassment during religious processions.

The RFDC said it has expanded support measures, including legal assistance, volunteer monitoring and protective accompaniment for clergy and nuns, warning that anti-Christian incidents are becoming more frequent and increasingly visible in public spaces.
