Pregnant Palestinian Woman Loses Unborn Child After Ambulance Delayed at Israeli Checkpoint
A pregnant Palestinian woman from the town of Qaryut, south of Nablus, reportedly lost her unborn child after an ambulance was delayed at the Awarta military checkpoint, according to the Palestinian news agency Wafa.
Qaryut ambulance officer Bashar al-Qaryuti said Israeli forces prevented medical teams from passing through the checkpoint and detained a member of the ambulance crew. He also said the woman, who was six months pregnant and experiencing severe bleeding, was searched despite her critical condition.
According to the report, soldiers also ordered the ambulance crew to switch off the vehicle's engine, causing onboard medical equipment to stop working. Palestinian medical officials said the delay contributed to the loss of the unborn child.
