Pentagon Report Reveals Extent of US Losses From Iranian Attacks
A Pentagon watchdog report has revealed that Iranian attacks caused significantly greater losses to US forces and facilities during the Iran war than previously acknowledged.
The report said dozens of US aircraft were destroyed or damaged, including at least four F-15E fighters, an A-10, an AH-64 Apache, four AH-6 helicopters and an MH-60 helicopter. The US also lost an MQ-4C surveillance aircraft and as many as 30 MQ-9 Reaper drones.
Iranian attacks also damaged or destroyed hundreds of buildings and structures at US military installations across Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Oman and Jordan.
US diplomatic facilities in Iraq, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and the UAE were also damaged, with the estimated repair cost reaching about $184 million.
The Pentagon estimated that Operation Epic Fury cost about $33 billion between February 28 and June 30, including roughly $22 billion in expended munitions. The heavy weapons use has contributed to ammunition shortages and exposed supply-chain bottlenecks.
The report recorded at least 11 US military personnel killed in action and 417 wounded in Iranian attacks through June 30. It also highlighted the wider logistical and financial burden of maintaining US operations across the region.
