UN Report Says 80 Percent of Gaza Population Living in Dire Conditions

A new UN assessment has found that nearly 1.7 million displaced Palestinians, representing about 80 percent of Gaza’s population, are living in extremely difficult conditions with limited access to basic necessities.

According to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), many displaced families face severe shortages of water, shelter, and essential services. The report estimates that more than 59,000 shelters house over eight people each, highlighting widespread overcrowding.

The assessment also found that around 38,500 people are sleeping outdoors, while approximately 600,000 people do not have adequate access to safe drinking water. UN officials warned that the humanitarian situation remains critical as displacement and shortages continue across Gaza.
