Nephew of PA Vice President Hussein al-Sheikh Arrested Over Alleged Gaza Smuggling Case
The nephew of Palestinian Authority Vice President Hussein al-Sheikh has reportedly been arrested by Israel’s internal security agency Shin Bet over alleged involvement in smuggling goods into the Gaza Strip.
According to Israeli media reports, Jamal al-Sheikh was arrested in February after allegedly operating a smuggling network involving Israeli soldiers, a Gaza merchant and an Egyptian national.
The reported shipments between 2025 and 2026 included items such as chocolate, solar panels, batteries, tobacco products, mobile phones and electric bicycles. Israeli authorities reportedly intercepted a final shipment containing hundreds of cigarette pallets and iPhones worth millions of dollars.
The identities of the alleged Israeli soldiers involved remain undisclosed due to a gag order. The case comes amid wider reports of illegal trade networks and profiteering linked to goods entering Gaza during the ongoing blockade and humanitarian crisis.
Hussein al-Sheikh is a senior Palestinian Authority figure who has been viewed as a possible future successor to Mahmoud Abbas.
