Naftali Bennett Says Starlink Devices Smuggled Into Iran to Support Protests
Former Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett has claimed that he supported efforts to smuggle tens of thousands of Starlink receivers into Iran to help anti-government protesters maintain internet access during unrest.
Speaking at a policy summit in Jerusalem, Bennett said Iranian authorities frequently shut down the internet during protests to disrupt communication and coordination. He argued that providing satellite-based connectivity through SpaceX Starlink devices could have allowed protesters to stay connected and organize more effectively.
Bennett stated the plan was intended to “ensure continuity of communication” during internet blackouts and potentially strengthen protest movements aimed at challenging Iran’s government.
He also claimed the initiative was halted under the current Israeli government led by Benjamin Netanyahu, calling its handling of the matter ineffective. According to Bennett, the infrastructure was therefore not in place when large-scale protests later erupted.
The remarks come amid ongoing political tensions between Israeli leaders over Iran policy and broader regional influence strategies.
