A senior Iranian commander has warned that Iran would target US military bases and American vessels if Washington launched a ground invasion of Iran. Ali Fadavi, an adviser to the commander-in-chief of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, made the threat during a televised interview late Sunday.
Conditional Warning
Fadavi said any US ground attack would prompt strikes on locations linked to the United States, including bases and ships. He also warned that American vessels deployed near Iran could face attack. His remarks were a threat tied to a hypothetical invasion; they did not announce that such an attack had begun.
Fadavi said Iran and Oman should set rules for the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic shipping route, and claimed the two countries had prepared measures that were already being implemented. He also argued that Iran had targeted US facilities rather than Muslim countries where those facilities are located.
Regional Military Tensions
The comments came as the United States moved additional naval and military assets toward the Middle East and reinforced air and missile defences at regional bases. Washington and Tehran remain at odds over military operations and security in the region.
The warning adds to the risk of escalation around the Gulf and nearby sea lanes, where any confrontation involving bases or warships could affect regional security and commercial shipping.
