Fergie Chambers Arrested in Spain Over US Extradition Request
American activist and philanthropist Fergie Chambers has been arrested in Ibiza, Spain, after US authorities requested his extradition on charges including international money laundering, riot and conspiracy to riot.
Chambers appeared before a Spanish judge, who denied him bail while extradition proceedings continue. US prosecutors allege he transferred about $7.5 million abroad after leaving the United States in 2023 to support Hamas.
His supporters reject the allegations, saying the funds were used for legitimate investments and to sponsor Tunisia's Club Africain football team. They describe the case as politically motivated and highlight Chambers' financial support for humanitarian relief in Gaza and legal defence initiatives.
If extradited and convicted on the main money laundering charge, Chambers could face up to 20 years in prison.
