Malaysia Reaffirms Refusal to Recognise Israel Despite US Pressure
Malaysia has reaffirmed that it will not recognise Israel, maintaining its long-standing foreign policy despite growing pressure from the United States and calls by some US lawmakers to reassess relations with Kuala Lumpur.
Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan said Malaysia's ambassador to the United States explained the country's position after being summoned by the US State Department. He stressed that Malaysia's policy is not a reaction to recent events but a consistent stance upheld by successive governments.
Hasan said Malaysia has never recognised Israel and continues to prohibit Israeli passport holders from entering the country as part of its support for the Palestinian cause.
The statement follows recent remarks by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, who also reaffirmed the government's commitment to maintaining its policy of non-recognition of Israel.
