Israeli forces have taken control of nearly 60 percent of the Gaza Strip as military operations continue across the besieged enclave.
Large sections of Rafah in southern Gaza and areas surrounding the Netzarim Corridor have been emptied and turned into military zones, with widespread destruction reported following months of air strikes and ground assaults. Hundreds of thousands of Palestinians have been displaced as Israeli forces expand deeper into the territory.
Israeli officials have indicated that operations in Gaza are expected to continue despite ongoing ceasefire discussions mediated by Egypt, Qatar and the United States. Palestinians returning to previously evacuated areas have reported severe damage to homes, roads and civilian infrastructure.
Health authorities in Gaza say over 72 000 Palestinians have been killed since the war began in October 2023, while humanitarian agencies continue warning of worsening shortages of food, medical supplies and shelter. Aid organisations have also raised concerns over deteriorating living conditions for displaced civilians across the enclave.
