Israel Prepares for New Ground Operation in Gaza
Israel is reportedly preparing for a new ground operation in the Gaza Strip, with the Israeli military strengthening its positions along the so-called Yellow Line and continuing targeted attacks.
According to Israel’s Yedioth Ahronoth, the preparations are linked to claims that Hamas has not agreed to disarm and is rebuilding its military capabilities. The Israeli military’s Southern Command is reportedly maintaining a high level of activity, including targeted strikes and attacks on alleged weapons depots.
The report said Israel now controls larger areas of Gaza, but maintaining that control presents significant military and operational challenges.
Israeli officials said that under the US-backed framework, Hamas could be pressured to surrender its weapons. If that does not happen, Israeli forces could eventually be ordered to carry out disarmament by force.
Defence Minister Israel Katz said the military was prepared to act if ordered to eliminate Hamas and destroy its tunnels. Israeli military officials have also described continued strikes as a means of increasing pressure on Hamas to accept a deal involving disarmament.
