The International Monetary Fund has approved an $8.1 billion financial support package for Ukraine, aimed at stabilising the country’s economy amid the ongoing war with Russia.
The funding forms part of a broader multi-year assistance programme designed to support Kyiv’s budget, rebuild infrastructure and maintain essential public services as the conflict continues. Ukrainian officials welcomed the decision, saying the funds would help sustain government operations and protect critical sectors.
The IMF said the programme includes fiscal reforms and transparency measures, with disbursements tied to economic benchmarks. The latest approval signals continued international backing for Ukraine as it faces mounting financial strain due to military expenditures and damage to infrastructure.
Western governments and international institutions have pledged billions in economic and military support since Russia’s full-scale invasion. The IMF package is intended to reinforce macroeconomic stability and investor confidence during a prolonged period of uncertainty.
