Around 100 U.S. military personnel have arrived in Nigeria to take part in a joint training mission with the country’s armed forces, officials confirmed.

The deployment is focused on strengthening operational coordination and counterterrorism capabilities, particularly in regions affected by insurgent violence and armed groups. Nigerian authorities said the U.S. troops will serve in advisory and training roles and will not engage in direct combat operations.

Security cooperation between Washington and Abuja has expanded in recent years as Nigeria continues to confront militant activity in parts of the northeast and northwest. The training mission is expected to enhance intelligence sharing, tactical preparedness and logistical support for Nigerian forces.

Officials described the presence of U.S. personnel as temporary and mission-specific. The development comes amid broader international efforts to support regional stability and security in West Africa. Further details about the duration of the deployment have not been disclosed.
