Four Crew and Two Rescuers Killed in Red Sea Houthi Attack
Four crew members were killed when Iran-backed Houthi forces attacked the cargo ship Tihamah in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait on August 11, according to Yemeni officials. Three of the victims were Pakistani nationals and one was Indonesian.
Two rescuers from the anti-Houthi National Resistance Forces were also killed after arriving at the scene and coming under a second attack. Ten others were injured, including crew members and security personnel.
The Houthis later confirmed targeting a ship they claimed was carrying Saudi military equipment. They have imposed a maritime embargo on Saudi Arabia in the Red Sea since July 20.
Separately, the US military said it fired two Hellfire missiles at the Panama-flagged container ship Vela Nova in the Gulf of Oman, disabling its steering after it allegedly ignored warnings and headed toward an Iranian port.
The attacks come as shipping through the Red Sea and Bab el-Mandeb continues to decline sharply amid escalating regional tensions.
