At least 22 people were killed and 36 others injured after a truck carrying Afghan returnees from Pakistan overturned on a highway in Afghanistan, according to local officials.

The victims were among Afghans returning home after leaving Pakistan, where thousands have faced pressure to depart in recent months. Authorities said the crash occurred after the vehicle flipped over while traveling along a major road, causing heavy casualties among passengers packed inside the truck. Emergency teams and local residents rushed to the scene to assist survivors and transport the injured to nearby medical facilities. Officials said several of the wounded were in serious condition, raising fears that the death toll could rise further.

The accident has once again highlighted the dangerous travel conditions faced by many Afghan returnees making the journey back into the country. Poor road infrastructure, overcrowded vehicles and unsafe transport conditions continue to contribute to deadly traffic incidents across Afghanistan. Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the crash.
