Heavy rains and flash flooding across Kenya have killed at least 81 people and displaced tens of thousands, officials said, as the long rainy season continues to batter much of the country. The downpours have caused rivers to overflow, sweeping away homes, inundating farmland, and cutting off key roads in numerous counties.

Nairobi and western counties such as Kisumu and Narok are among the hardest hit, with entire villages submerged and families forced to evacuate to shelters. Authorities report that rescue teams, including the Kenya Red Cross and government emergency services, are working to reach stranded residents and restore vital infrastructure.

The persistent flooding has damaged homes, disrupted transport services, and raised concerns about food security and water‑borne diseases. Meteorological officials warn that heavy rainfall may continue in the coming days, urging residents in flood‑prone areas to take precautions and seek higher ground.
