Eighteen Wounded as Explosions Rock Damascus During Macron’s Visit to Syria

At least 18 people, including four police officers, were injured after two explosive devices detonated in Damascus during a visit by French President Emmanuel Macron.

The explosions occurred near the Ministry of Tourism and a hotel linked to Macron’s visit, according to Syrian authorities. The French president’s office said he was not affected and his schedule continued as planned.

Syria’s Interior Ministry said the devices were improvised explosives, with one reportedly placed inside a vehicle and another hidden in a trash container. Security forces sealed off the area and launched an investigation to identify those responsible.

The incident highlighted ongoing security challenges in Syria, despite heavy security measures during Macron’s visit, which marked a major diplomatic engagement following political changes in the country.
