US President Donald Trump is expected to tell Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan that Washington is prepared to restore Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II access for Turkey, according to a report by The New York Times.

The reported move comes as Trump travels to Ankara for a NATO summit, where he is expected to meet Erdoğan. Officials reportedly said discussions could involve a possible exchange of letters between the two leaders.

Turkey was removed from the F-35 programme in 2019 after purchasing the Russian S-400 Triumf missile system, which Washington said posed security concerns. The US also imposed sanctions and restricted future fighter jet sales.

The reported development signals a possible improvement in US-Turkey relations, though legal and congressional restrictions remain a major obstacle.
