Canadian Premiers Hit Back at Trump as Trade War Escalates

Canadian provincial premiers have joined Prime Minister Mark Carney in pushing back against US President Donald Trump’s latest tariffs on Canadian goods.

Trump imposed 50 percent tariffs on around $20 billion worth of Canadian products, further escalating tensions between the two longtime trading partners.

British Columbia Premier David Eby sharply criticized the US president, saying “you just can’t trust Trump” and arguing that Canada must stand firm in protecting its economic interests.

Other provincial leaders have also backed a tougher response from Ottawa, as Canada considers measures to counter the US tariffs and protect Canadian businesses and workers.

The dispute has added new pressure to US-Canada relations and raised concerns about the economic impact of a prolonged trade conflict.
