Around 40 people were killed after residential buildings in Iran’s capital were struck during a joint U.S.–Israeli attack, according to Iranian media and first responders. The strikes reportedly hit an area near Resalat Square in Tehran, damaging several apartment blocks and trapping residents under rubble.

Emergency teams were seen searching through debris as rescue operations continued, with officials warning the death toll could still rise. Local reports said the victims included civilians living in the targeted buildings. The attack comes amid a rapidly escalating conflict between Iran and a U.S.–Israel alliance that began in late February. Since then, both sides have exchanged missile strikes and air attacks across the region, raising fears of a wider Middle East war.

Iranian officials condemned the strike and accused Washington and Tel Aviv of targeting civilian areas. Neither the United States nor Israel immediately issued detailed comments on the specific incident, though both governments have said previous strikes were aimed at military infrastructure. The latest attack highlights the growing humanitarian toll of the conflict as civilians in major cities increasingly find themselves caught in the fighting.
