Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa met Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) commander Mazloum Abdi and Ilham Ahmad on Thursday, in the presence of Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani in Damascus to discuss the next phase of integrating the Kurdish-led force into Syrian state institutions, according to current reports.
The meeting came as Damascus continued implementing its agreement with the SDF on phased military, administrative and security integration. Earlier SANA reports said presidential envoy Ziad al-Ayesh had held several rounds of talks with Abdi in Hasakah on detainees, institutional integration and related arrangements.
Reporting on the 16 April meeting said discussions focused on advancing that process, which is central to Damascus’s effort to restore state control over northeastern Syria while avoiding renewed conflict with Kurdish-led forces.
The talks mark another step in ongoing negotiations between the Syrian government and the SDF, as both sides continue to work through the political and military terms of integration.
