WHO Reports 190 Attacks on Health Care in Lebanon Amid Escalating Conflict
The World Health Organization (WHO) says it has verified 190 attacks on health care facilities and personnel in Lebanon over the past three months, warning that the country’s health system is under severe strain due to escalating violence.
A WHO representative said the latest Israeli escalation since March has resulted in more than 3,400 deaths and nearly 10,400 injuries. Health workers have been heavily affected, with 128 killed and 332 injured.
The agency reported that 17 hospitals have been partially damaged, while three hospitals and 42 primary health care centers remain closed. It also noted that around 130,000 people are currently sheltering after being displaced by the fighting, with numbers expected to rise following new evacuation orders in southern Beirut suburbs.
Officials also highlighted a recent attack on Jabal Amel Hospital, which injured dozens and damaged critical units including emergency and intensive care services, though the incident is still being verified.
The WHO called for an immediate halt to attacks on health care, improved humanitarian access, and a lasting ceasefire to protect civilians and medical services.
