US Troop Deaths in Iran War Exceed Pentagon Public Count by Four
The number of US military personnel who have died since the start of the Iran war is reportedly higher than the figure publicly listed by the Pentagon.
A report citing US officials familiar with the Defense Department’s internal casualty records said at least 22 American service members have died since the conflict began on February 28. That is four more than the number recorded in the Pentagon’s public casualty database at the time of the report.
One official said not all of the additional deaths were directly caused by combat, but involved US personnel stationed in the Middle East during the ongoing hostilities. Three US contractors based in the region have also reportedly died since combat operations began.
The Pentagon declined to address questions about the reported discrepancy. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth rejected the report, calling it false.
The discrepancy has renewed questions about how US military casualties are being recorded and publicly reported during the conflict.
