The United States has imposed sanctions on several organisers linked to the Gaza-bound Global Sumud Flotilla, accusing them of supporting Hamas-linked activities. The sanctions came as Israeli forces intercepted multiple aid vessels attempting to reach Gaza through the eastern Mediterranean.

Organisers of the flotilla said more than 400 activists from dozens of countries were detained after Israeli troops boarded the boats in international waters. Israel stated the mission violated its naval blockade and described the flotilla as a political provocation.

Activists involved in the mission said the flotilla aimed to deliver humanitarian assistance and draw attention to conditions in Gaza following months of conflict and restrictions on aid access.

Human rights groups criticised the US sanctions, arguing they could discourage humanitarian activism and solidarity campaigns related to Gaza. Turkey and several international figures condemned Israel’s interception of the boats, while organisers vowed to continue future missions despite the crackdown.
