Pentagon Chief Denies US Military Faces Munitions Stockpile Crisis

US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth has rejected claims that the American military is facing a shortage of munitions, calling the reports a “manufactured story” promoted by the media.

Speaking on CBS News’ Face the Nation, Hegseth said US stockpiles were strong and continuing to grow. His comments came shortly before the announcement of a ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran.

He said the US is producing weapons at a higher rate than before and accused the previous administration of depleting supplies through aid to Ukraine, adding that efforts are underway to rebuild stockpiles.

Hegseth also addressed earlier congressional remarks in which he said replenishing munitions could take months or years, explaining that different weapons systems require different timelines.

Meanwhile, the Pentagon previously estimated that the cost of the conflict with Iran had reached nearly $29bn, though critics have questioned the accuracy of those figures.
