The United Kingdom will not join any potential United States-led blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, a British minister has said, signaling a divergence in approach between the two allies over rising tensions with Iran.

Speaking on April 14, the minister emphasized that while the UK remains committed to regional security, it favors diplomatic solutions rather than direct military measures in the strategically vital waterway. The Strait of Hormuz is a critical global oil transit route, with roughly a fifth of the world’s supply passing through it.

The comments come amid escalating tensions between the United States and Iran, raising concerns about potential disruptions to global energy markets. UK officials stressed that maintaining stability and freedom of navigation remains a priority but should be achieved through coordinated international efforts. Analysts say the UK’s stance reflects a cautious approach aimed at avoiding further escalation while preserving its close strategic relationship with Washington.
