The United Kingdom has pledged a £540 million military aid package to Ukraine, aimed at strengthening Kyiv’s air defence capabilities as Russian attacks continue to target critical infrastructure. The funding, announced on 12 February, includes £150 million through NATO’s Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) for U.S.-made interceptors and £390 million for additional UK-manufactured defence missiles.
The new support comes amid a wave of missile and drone strikes by Russian forces on Ukraine’s energy grid, which have caused widespread power outages and hardship during one of the coldest winters since the war began in 2022. The United Nations has urged an end to attacks on civilian infrastructure.
UK Defence Secretary John Healey said the package reflects Britain’s ongoing commitment to Ukraine’s defence, co-chairing the Ukraine Defence Contact Group meeting in Brussels with allied counterparts. The expanded aid complements the UK’s broader long-term commitments, including sustained multi-billion-pound military support through to 2031.
