Syria Says Damascus Bombing Suspects Linked to ISIL Arrested

Syrian authorities say they have arrested the group responsible for the recent bombings in Damascus, adding that preliminary investigations indicate the suspects are affiliated with ISIL.

Officials said the suspects were detained during coordinated security raids across four neighborhoods in and around the Syrian capital. Authorities said more information about the group's members and their roles will be released after the investigation is completed.

The explosions on July 7 killed one person and injured 36 others while French President Emmanuel Macron was visiting Damascus. The attacks came just days after another bombing at a café in the capital killed 10 people and wounded 21.

Syrian officials said the latest arrests are part of ongoing efforts to strengthen security as the country faces continued instability following the political changes that began after the fall of Bashar al-Assad's government in late 2024.
