Ebola Death Toll in DR Congo Climbs to 101
The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) has reported 101 confirmed Ebola deaths as health officials struggle to contain the outbreak in the country’s eastern provinces.
According to the latest government report, 35 new Ebola cases and 10 additional deaths were recorded within 24 hours, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 550.
The outbreak, caused by the Bundibugyo strain of Ebola, was officially declared in May but is believed to have gone undetected for several weeks, complicating containment efforts.
The hardest-hit areas are Ituri, North Kivu and South Kivu provinces, where ongoing violence and the presence of armed groups have restricted humanitarian access and hindered medical response operations.
Authorities warned that insecurity in several health zones continues to pose a major challenge to controlling the spread of the disease, despite relatively calm conditions in the provincial capital, Bunia.
