Slovenia Parliament Approves Janez Jansa's New Centre-Right Government
Slovenia's parliament has approved a new centre-right government led by Prime Minister Janez Jansa, who begins his fourth term in office following an inconclusive election in March.
The 15-member cabinet won parliamentary backing with 49 votes in favor and 30 against. Most ministers come from Jansa's Slovenian Democratic Party (SDS), while coalition partners NSi, Democrats and Focus also received cabinet positions. The five-party coalition holds 43 seats in the 90-member parliament and receives additional support from the Resnica party and minority representatives.
Jansa pledged to reduce taxes, streamline government bureaucracy, combat corruption and grant more authority to local governments. He described his cabinet as a team representing different generations and regions of the country.
The new government replaces the liberal administration led by Robert Golob, whose party won the election but was unable to secure enough support to form a governing coalition.
Jansa also extended an invitation to opposition parties to cooperate on major legislation, saying he hopes to build broader political consensus on key national issues.
Political analysts expect the new administration to shift Slovenia's foreign policy direction. The previous government recognized a Palestinian state and imposed travel bans on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and two members of his cabinet, policies that could now come under review.
