More than 500 people were arrested during a protest in London, United Kingdom, against the government’s move to ban the activist group Palestine Action, police confirmed on April 11, 2026.

The Metropolitan Police said 523 individuals were detained during the demonstration in Trafalgar Square after participants allegedly breached public order conditions.

Authorities noted that those arrested ranged widely in age, including a significant number of older adults and senior citizens, highlighting the broad demographic involved in the protest.

The demonstration was organised in response to the UK government’s decision to outlaw Palestine Action under counter-terrorism legislation, a move that has drawn criticism from activists and civil liberties groups. Protesters argued the ban restricts freedom of expression and the right to peaceful assembly.

Police stated that arrests were made for offences including breaching protest conditions, adding that action was taken to maintain public safety. Officials reiterated their support for peaceful protest while emphasizing enforcement of the law. Further demonstrations are expected as debate over the ban continues.
