Over 1,500 Fighters Killed in Month-Long Yemen Clashes

More than 1,500 fighters were reportedly killed during a month of intense fighting between Yemen’s government-aligned forces and the Houthi movement along the country’s western coast.

The pro-government National Resistance said more than 500 of its fighters were killed and around 1,500 wounded between August 9 and September 10. It also claimed that more than 1,000 Houthi fighters were killed, although the figures could not be independently verified.

The fighting reportedly began with Houthi missile, drone and explosive-boat attacks before spreading across several fronts, including Hays, al-Kadha, Maqbanah and al-Barh.

The National Resistance accused Iranian military personnel and regional allies of supporting the Houthi offensive, while saying Saudi Arabia and other pro-government forces provided support to its side. The Houthis and Tehran did not immediately comment on the allegations.

The escalation comes as both sides report battlefield advances, while thousands of civilians have been displaced from Yemen’s western coast amid the renewed fighting.
