More than 30 people have been injured in a bombing at a nightclub in the northern Peruvian city of Trujillo. The explosion ripped through the crowded venue late at night, sending panicked patrons running for the exits as smoke and debris filled the dance floor.

Local officials said the injured included several minors and that victims were taken to nearby hospitals with burns, fractures and shrapnel wounds. Police cordoned off the area and opened an investigation into the blast, which they suspect may be linked to local criminal gangs.

Early reports suggest an explosive device was detonated inside or near the entrance of the club, though forensic teams are still working to determine the exact type of bomb used. The interior ministry has pledged to deploy additional security forces to Trujillo, a city that has struggled with rising violence and extortion in recent years.

Authorities have appealed for witnesses and urged nightlife venues to step up security checks. The attack has renewed concern over public safety in Peru’s urban centres, where gang‑related attacks increasingly target businesses and crowded spaces.
